Title: Apprentice Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 304 Location: New Jersey ![]() ![]() | I actually did a search for this topic because I was thinking about this forum for some reason. At one point in time (maybe two or three years ago) I considered buying this forum and will never exclude it from my searches. I love the default look, I think it's a cool looking forum. I did a poll on one of my sites a couple of years ago and even pretended like I was buying WowBB for the forum and they said, "No don't buy WowBB ******!" I actually really wanted it because of the fact I liked the default skin and thought it was a good looking default forum. Anyway, I've been following the progress since then and there isn't much progress being made. It seems to be pretty much the same with the owner saying updates will come sooner or later and no real major updates made. Have they ever decided how much it will cost for a major upgrade (ex. going to 2.0)? That seems to be a big problem not knowing how much you have to pay when they go to the next level. I'm sure it will only be like $30 or $40 which comes out cheaper than most paid forum softwares because they only do major upgrades once every 4 years (which is also bad). I've heard support is poor and this is a paid forum. Although it's not the only paid forum with (supposed) poor support, it's still a big deciding factor when you see people posting about unanswered support issues for days. I really like the default look (still) and I still go to the site occasionally to see if anything major has happened, but I'd rather use a free forum script than this for the time being only because of the above issues. Uncertainty really hurts it bad.

My WOWbb forum has basically all of the mods available to other forums, except subforums, which are hopefully coming soon. I also run a custom theming and mod site for wowbb with hundreds of custom themes, mods, etc. i think it is one of the best programs out there and the support is typically within 24 hours from posting in private support on the main wowbb site. they just hired more help also, which makes things even better.

Title: Apprentice Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 304 Location: New Jersey ![]() ![]() | That's another big surprise. Sub-forums not being a hack or default option. Even phpBB has sub-forums as a hack (at least for the 2 series and who knows about the 3 series). I don't know, WowBB is visually appealing (to me at least, others hate it), but lacks basic functionality. You can argue WowBB is a starter forum for novices, but how much more novice can it be than phpBB or even some of the other smaller BB's out there that are free? To me WowBB is a phpBB forum with the topics on index hack installed and a nicer default skin (which you can buy for less than the owned WowBB license). I had hope for them at one point in time, but with so much time in between updates and then the updates being very minor, I can't force myself to buy it yet.

Title: Apprentice Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 304 Location: New Jersey ![]() ![]() | Honestly I haven't. I looked at your's at the beginning of the thread and didn't really like it. The I re-looked at it and decided maybe that's what your genre of forums likes. I'm into simpler designs so I'm not a design expert, but I don't care for it, although I liked it better on the second view. Of course my personal preference is the default skin.

My main problem with wowbb is the lack of progress and any sign of progress. There is only one release a year and its way behind mybb (which is free). One of my biggest problems was the memory usage - the search index thing was massive and i only has a few thousand posts.

I was mainly showing examples of different skins and mods people are putting into their boards. And I am not sure what you mean about memory usage?? The 24hour site you mentioned has over 100,000 posts with no problems. www.loungeplace.com/bb has 300,000 posts with no memory issues, so I am confused with that one. Also, what did you mean about the search index? I have no problems with it. on my wowbb forum (link in signature). get back to me about those questions.

Im yet to see any true flexibility in wowbb skins they all have the same generic look with just a few changes to the colour bars. I havent seen the flexibility of vb in it - for instance from the default vb skin to this skin (the admin fusion one) or the premium themes available etc.
