What Puts the 'WOW' in WowBB?

I'm curious to see why some people use this software. First off, it is not XHTML valid, it is HTML 4.01 Transitional. Everything is nested tables, and it reminds me eerily of PHPNUKE. It does not include basic features like threaded forum display, subforums, link forums, user ranks, advanced search, thread splitting, CAPTCHA, a warning or suspension system, and the like. Built in friendly urls are nice, but today's search engines have no problems picking up php request variables. The only reason I use SEO is so I can get keywords in my url.

I would just like to know what makes this software so great? From anyone who owns a license?

Thanks.

Here's what makes me go "wow" when I see WowBB:
"Wow, have I gone back to the late 1990s?"
"Wow, do people actually use this?"
"Wow, do people pay for phpBB-like software?"

I think those three questions get my point across.

lol @ Ashley...too funny

I have wondered the same thing myself. The first time I saw WowBB was when somebody requested that we add it to PostFusion. When I first saw it, the appearance was terrible, but I didn't think much of it thinking that it was just mediocre software...but then I noticed that it was actually commercial software.

I'm not really sure what people see in it either. The look of it is not very clean or up to the times (as Ashley pointed out ). The features are not either, and the third party mod/addon userbase is very small. To me, I'd rather save the money and go with a free solution which is just as good (imo), if not better, or get more bang for my buck and go with vB or IPB.

Opensource Software like Mybb/Phpbb for example have a lot more features. 99 bucks for a wowbb license is steep for what you get, especially when Firefox does not work properly with it.

I set up a mybb forum for a friend and in 18 months have yet to get a spam bot but get 6-8 a day with wowbb and it is pissing off other admins and mods (that can't ban either which is weird) and that is why I am converting to another forum. I would prefer to convert to Mybb but not sure if I can but I may just end up getting a vbulliten license.

I am biased so I will not reply with my answers. WowBB is young software compared to others out there. It will develop and become more feature-rich as other softwares as time goes on while probably maintaining the same price range.

Exactly, if it is not feature rich as compared with other paid softwares, wouldn't be it a good idea to offer it as a free solution for the time being so more mods and styles come along? From your reply it kind of sounds like Wowbb guys are selling unfinished software for a hefty price tag!
