babbleboard - new and cool looking forum software

I have been using this the past few days and it seems to work quite well. Its still in the early stages but seems to be error free from what i have toyed with.

BabbleBoard | Free Forum Software

my version is at

It looks interesting , but there is nothing too unique about it. It looks just like a vB or MyBB. It would need to have a pretty sweet mod to sell me on it.

The code still has a long way to go before I'd even consider it worthy of a stable release:

Non-descriptive variable names ($result334)
Missing single quotes around array indexes ($_POST[email] instead of $_POST['email'])
Hard-coded language strings
Most of the code isn't indented
Ugly MySQL queries ("select COLUMN from TABLE" instead of "SELECT column FROM table")
Blindly accepting POST and GET variables with no sanitizing other than escaping quotes
No file security (use of variables declared in other files without preventing direct access)
Using relative paths for including files (rather than using full paths)
Deleting attachments and associated thumbnails based on what glob() finds
Very few comments in the code to explain what's going on

It definitely looks like an interesting piece of forum software. I'm not particularly fond of the design (for both the front-end and back-end), but it doesn't look too bad, especially when compared to some of the other simple + free alternatives.

Umm i have no idea what any of that means....

All im concerned about is how easy it is to use....how good it looks and how much features it has.

As for hacking any board can be hacked so if its gonna happen it will happen....babbleboard does automatic backups so i dont have to worry about any of that kinda thing.

It looks interesting, although it's definitely hard to get traction amongst the big 4- vB, IPB, MyBB and phpBB

I think SMF is bigger than MyBB

I don't mind the feel of it, but for free forums I've gotta stay with SMF. They've been pretty good to me.

Yes, i like SMF too.
But, you've got to agree that BabbleBoard's default theme is way better than SMF's.
That's a start. i just saw the Admin Panel and didn't find that too good. I mean Babble Board's.

Yeah its not the best but i think at the moment the main focus is on the main forum bits. I know they plan to do a lot with the blog feature etc.

Its got some great unique features like the absence of all pop ups - if i get a pm etc the menu bar changes colour to let me know. Small things like that and allowing users to edit the css to change the look of the site to how they want it (each has a private css file to change appearance).

The admin panel doesnt have to look great i dont think as long as the forum does, its missing some features still but im sure they will come.

Talking about SMF i really dont like the appearance of it, it has some awsome features but it looks terrible to me. I would go for MYBB before it. But i think babbleboard looks better than both so im chosing it.

Interesting. I am loving the free boards that 'remind me' of vB. I still think vB/IPB are the standard but the competition for those that can't afford those is an interesting battle to watch.
