What is the best Forum system out there?

well theres several systems that i know of the top of my head

phpbb2/3 - i use phpbb3 on my site

vBulletin - what this site is using as their forum *need to pay for it*

SMF - free forum system *two of my friends SMF forums were hacked in the passed couple of months*

well generally i think that people will say that VB is the best
but the main issue is that you need to pay yearly to use it
also if you are a new site it really does not make sense to pay for a forum system that may not even become used

i think that phpbb2/3 is the best free system

it may just depend on personally preference
phpbb2/3 was the first forum that i installed on my site
thats why i like it so much

You don't need to pay yearly for vB, its either $160 for life (plus updates cost) OR $85 per year. Unless you can't afford the owned license at the time of purchase then I wouldn't recommend the leased license, because you should plan for success that your forum would be up more than a year.

If I were to use a free software I would look at phpBB3 and MyBB.

I invite you to fully examine the WowClassic software in my sig. It's run by my good friend Nancy. You can ask any questions there, of course.

Good, glad you feel settled. Just make sure you sized it up comprehensively besides features. Like the type of free 7 day support, user friendly/easy template system, speed, etc.

Either way, glad to meet you. Maybe we will run into each other in the PostFusion system I am now in.

That's good then, I have no way to compare as I am unfamiliar with them. I just wanted to suggest that you actually compared it with help that can access your site and take care of annoying things and such.

I was referring to more serious code and theme work that takes far more than a minute to do.

I was referring to being resource-light and the file system, a factor independent of one's host.

That reminds me. I forgot to suggest compare security as well. I am learning that there are several forum software systems out there that are more vulnerable than others.

I just wanted to make sure you actually compared is all. There are unique things to each software and service.

Why thank you.
