Sounds like a tough one.

Can't help too much on that front, but possibly having a page that is for parents, to read would be a good idea. Something like what your forum is trying to achieve or something, to put parents at ease (if they're worried about something).

I had a kid section on my site for a long time and I have to tell you it was a lot of work. You already know about coppa and other laws, so that is a good start. Next you need to figure out how you are going to keep those kids safe when they are on your site. Will you let anyone join or will be you approving members? Will you let the new members post right away or only allow them to post in a few forums before they get access to the rest of the site? Security is a big issue.

I like the idea of having a parents section. As a parent of 4 kids, I like to know what my kids are getting into and the rules on each site they are on.

Also, you need to figure out what you want to offer them. Like for instance, an arcade, photo gallery, chat room etc.

Good luck with this! I hope something I said has helped

thanks for the ideas guys, yes i have 2 kids, they are only 4 and 1 now though. a few members of my sites have kids and thought it would be cool to have a tristate kids type deal (i have sites for the tristate DE, NJ, and PA.) it all spawned from this thread HERE. I am thinking of maybe taking the license from my new jersey site cause it's dead and using it for a kids forum. arcade, gallery, chat, home work help, etc etc.....

its a decent idea, i am def thinking about it.

thats what i was thinking but that niche i think is TOO small, so i thought i would let the kid forum branch out to NJ, PA and DE.

I'm still undecided

If anyone has a UK based kids forum I'd like to hear what the challenges are there regarding the law and hurdles they come across.

It must be a difficult challenge - very different from the usual discussion forums. Even being creative and sticky enough to hold the attention of kids must be difficult.

Maybe I should watch cartoons for a month before I start the project I have in mind. I've a really good concept - will share with you later.

I also run a kids forum, as part of my parenting forum, so the children only get signed up as their parents sign them up. they get access to arcade games of course LOL
