More important stats and how often do you check 'em?

How often do you check your stats and what stats do you most pay attention too?

I currently check daily on my uniques, page views, time, search key phrases, and links from an external page.

These are the basic stats that I look at most often --

Uniques
Referring Pages
New Registrations (daily)
New Topics (daily)
New Posts (daily)

I check uniques and referring pages very often...when I'm online, every 30 minutes or so. It's always nice to know how many people are coming and where they are coming from.

I also look at forum stats a couple times per day, usually - stats such as new registrations, new topics, new posts, etc. If I find that new topics are low for a given day, I'll try to go around and create my own - and the same with posts. You can't do much about new registrations, but when I notice that registrations are low, I'll go out into other forums and start posting with my signature link. That registration stat is also related to uniques...if I notice uniques are the same, I try to do the same.

I'm always trying to keep the stats as constant and steady as possible (and increasing when possible also, of course )...so when I notice one is down, I'll try to focus on that one aspect

I am setting up a forum right now with VB 3.5.4 and couldnt find a good stats plugin. So I tried to use BBClone but thing is it also counts hits to the cron.php and other included files on every page load..

I check uniques, page views and referrers. The most important one to me is referrers (referrals, however you say it). I also visit the referring websites and see how my site is being discussed on the other sites. You'll be surprised at what other people think about your site. I've seen great posts about my sites and I've seen very negative posts about my sites. When I visit the referring site if there are negative posts or information I try to set the record straight and let them know the truth about whatever situation it is. I don't like it when people bad mouth my sites (especially people that I've had to ban). Also if people see you at a referring site whether you're defending yourself or they are talking positively about you, when they see you post it gets you even more visitors.

I once had a bunch of refferals that came over from a site. The only thing I couldn't figure what they said about about my site out, well lets just say it was all in French.

It was a forum about large equipment. Just before this happend I did a banner exchange with one of their advertisers and it went around that the person I exchange banner ads started up a new forum (mine). I had to use Alta-vista to convert the post into English and then I joined and use English to French to post that we advertised on each others sites. The members keeped posting about my site and everytime I had to use the good old translation program. It was fun for a while.

I find referrals and search terms the most interesting. Naturally page views and uniques are huge for me. Tracewatch allows you to see the path each visitor took during their visit - very addictive.

I'm always checking uniques each day, referring websites, search phrases, etc... I usually check AwStats at the end of the day, but I also use StatCounter now for daily checks.

The stats I find the most interesting have to be the referring sites and the search phrases. People have found my websites from the weirdest phrases...

Also, like David, I enjoy visiting unfamiliar referring websites/forums to see how exactly I was linked to. Usually I find that they are on my topsites list, but I also find posts where people have linked to my tutorials.

I had one article website link to one of my first blog posts and send me hundreds of unique visitors in a week or so, it was awesome .

I check uniques and referring depending on the sites. With my forum I don't really tend to check on a daily basis but more on a monthly basis as the stats don't really matter to me, but moreso the activity of the posters.

For my tutorial site I check them everyday, and usually referring sites and uniques is about it.
