allowing HTML / Embedding of videos? What are your thoughts?

I've been considering this for a while now but not really sure on this issue.

I've wanted to do this for my Videos section of my main site.

Florida Street Scene

But the problem comes that when you allow for embedded videos means that you have to allow all HTML and I'm not sure if I'm too comfortable with that concept!?

I mean isn't it possible for someone who has it out for you to screw up your forum all the easier by putting in some malicious HTML code on your site?

Let me know what you guys think so on this topic. I want to do this but I have a lot of apprehensions about it at the same time.

BTW:? is this section not viewable on the newposts?

If It's not about autos or technology, I don't really care.

If you're using a forum that allows custom BBCode, you could probably customize a new BBCode that does this, so you don't need to activate HTML.

Yep, I allow youtube vids to be embedded just by using [yt] tags...

HTML Code:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Yeah some forums have a [yt]MfmmuwG2Yyo[/yt] code
and others have a [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfmmuwG2Yyo[/youtube] code.
Depending on the forum software but it is usually a plugin that needs to be added.

I would never allow direct embedding of flash, it's too risky for something like forums.

What I typically do is use something like goldbrick or AME to pick up video and flash stuff.

BBcode is the best way to prevent risks.

Your running VBulletin, install the automatic media embedding script from vbulletin.org. That way you can control what sites can be embedded into your forum.

All the user has to do is post the url, and the script embeds the video.

true, we don`t want our members infected by a virus or trojan, that happened to one of my sites once, it was a blog though, not a forum
