Three Free Forum Promotion Tips that You NEVER Knew

Three Free Forum Promotion Tips that You NEVER Knew

Nowadays, forums are second nature to the Internet. With a quick search on Google, you can find hundreds of forums on nearly every niche. To give their forums an edge, creative webmasters started to submit to directories, advertise on related web sites, and use the signature-advertising trick. However, these brilliant ideas are becoming so commonplace, new ideas are needed to promote the next-generation forums of the future that are currently in development.

1: Library Books

This easy and free method of promotion is so obvious, that it has been overlooked by many forum owners. By placing small slips of paper with the URL of your forum on it in a book, you basically send a free advertisement into the world. A benefit of using a library book is that it allows you to handpick your targeted niche by age, interest, and even intelligence. One small downside to using the “library method” on most websites is that your ad will, at best, only reach one person a month. However, for new forums, one active member could make an incredible difference, which makes this method an excellent way to promote new forums. If you’re unsure of how well this method works, an easy way to check is to go back to the library every now and then and look at the book in question to see if your slip of paper is still there. If it isn’t, you can be satisfied in knowing that you earned yourself an extra guest to your website.

2: Money

One common mistake of forum owners is to throw money at the problem. Real, next-generation forum owners always throw money at their problems WITH a handy link to your website on the bill. Imagine going out to a local restaurant and spending a few three single dollars, each with a link to your site on them. First, the cashier reads the link, and stores it to memory, ready to visit your forum as soon as he/she has the access to a computer. After that, the cashier will hand the bills to some customers as change. These lucky customers will then be exposed to your website. After that, they will spend the money elsewhere, and the cycle continues forever. Always try to write the link on small bills (not twenties or higher), since they are more commonly used for change, and will thus be redistributed faster.

3: Public Places

Billboard advertising is one of the best ways to get exposure to anything. However, a smaller method exists for free. Just print a few links to your website, bring a lot of tape, and then head to a local city. Wherever you see a public restroom, phone booth, or a plain looking piece of concrete, tape a link to your site there! Sooner or later, someone will happen to see that link, and curiosity will take over. However, using this method can be tricky, because janitors, weather, and other forms of maintenance will remove your link, or just render it illegible, so if you decide to rely on this method, you’ll have to go back and replace the links often.

No offence, but many of the methods are pretty risky, in britain the third is called FlyTipping, which is punishable by a hefty fine.

Great ideas Ryan. I've considered doing the library book trick before, I probably will whenever I start my next forum. And the dollar bill idea is great, I would have never thought of that.

Definitely...as with all public advertising, you should always be familiar with your local laws first...because what is allowed in one place might not be allowed in another. It isn't just divided into countries or cities either...Some public places within the same city will allow you to leave your flyer up while others will not.

i think I'd also get in trouble with some of the ideas. They're very nice indeed, but I wound't risk a fine. It looks like in my country they kinda know how to get money out of everything, so I'd better keep off such a situation. Paying a 100 USD fine or more it's not a good idea for me ...

Not bad... I'd try to get permission from the library staff. Hell, I'd probably want to drop off some flyers there, on the counter (with permission).
