Buying And Selling Websites Made Easy

One of the fastest growing internet fads of today is the buying and selling of websites. If you hold tight to a few very simple rules you are bound to make a pretty little penny off of buying websites that aren’t doing so well, fixing them up, and then selling.

The first step one needs to follow is to make sure that you know something about the website you are looking to buy. You won’t really be able to offer a site much if the topic at hand is unfamiliar to you. You also don’t want to have to invest a lot of time and energy into simply learning about what your new purchase is trying to promote or market. The more you already know… the better!

If you are familiar with forums as opposed to regular websites this might be another area for you to research. The key is making sure that you know the product well enough to bring something to the table. If you have a love of a particular item or product and think that you could market it better to the public then perhaps look at a website promoting that item! But know that with the fast growing popularity of social networking and online forums there are multitudes of ways to bring in some cash from flipping these types of websites.

Once you have decided what type of website you would like to purchase you can then begin looking for your new purchase. You want to insure that you have spent sufficient time researching the site you wish to buy but don’t spend too much of your energy simply searching for that right site.

Once you have located a prospective site begin checking into the amount of traffic that the site brings in on a daily basis. One very easy way to do this is by checking its Alexa ranking to see just how good or bad the site ranking is. If the site is receiving such little traffic you might want to think about looking for a new site to flip.

When looking at a particular website pay attention to the ways the website is currently using its traffic to advertise and market. Using online advertising such as Adsense can quickly start the money rolling into your new gem. You want to pay close attention to where certain ads are placed and how the layout of the ad space can be changed and manipulated to increase monetary value of the website. Sometimes simply changing the color or placement of an ad can make a huge difference.

Now that you’ve selected the site you wish to purchase you need to get in and quickly make the purchase as to insure you don’t lose the website to another person looking for that next big hit. Be sure to let the seller make the first offer as to not offend the site owner- often times one’s idea of what their own website is worth can differ greatly from what someone looking to buy the site might feel. Once a price is decided upon, complete the purchase in a timely and professional manner.

Once the site is yours you can begin your quest. You should look at not only text link ads like Adsense but also look at affiliate programs, and advertising networks. Make sure that you have a specific plan of action ready to go. Sometimes your plan of action will begin to work right away and sometime it might take longer than expected. If something doesn’t seem to be working don’t give up and focus on manipulating the tools you have around you. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for advice from other webmasters or in webmaster forums. You’ll find more times than not that internet savvy people are willing to lend some good advice as well as take some in.

Another key to making money flipping websites is to not hang onto the website for too long. You must keep in mind that you bought the website with the intentions of selling so once you see a decent jump in monetary value you might want to go ahead and sell and begin looking for your next project. Always remember to price your newly revamped website at a good market price to insure a relatively quick sale. Once you have made several buys and get a good name on the web for being a professional you’ll be surprised just how quickly word of mouth spreads.

Unfortunately every webmaster thinks their website is worth thousands of dollars even though it only gets 10 visitors a day
