READ ME: New PostFusion Ranking System

We have just implemented a new PostFusion ranking system that will rank forums not on raw balance but instead on "recent activity". ALL users will need to reinstall PostFusion in order to participate. Additionally, you will need to resubscribe to any forums which you were previously subscribed to.

There are many factors which are included in our new formula, and they are included below:
  • Posts made within last 24 hours
  • Posts made within last 48 hours
  • Post made within past week
  • Posts made within last month
  • Posts made at top forums
  • # of different forums posted at within last week
  • # of new subscriptions made within last week
  • Posts received within last 24 hours
  • Posts received within last 48 hours
  • Post received within past week
  • Posts received within last month
  • Posts made at bottom forums
The factors in the green will increase your overall rating, and the factors in the red will decrease it. We will not reveal the exact weights tied to each factor, but they are very easy for us to manipulate, and we will continually adjust them as we see fit. All factors should be relatively self-explanatory with the exception of maybe "Posts made at top forums" and "Posts made at bottom forums". Basically, this means that you get the most credit for posting at the #1 forum, followed by #2-5, and so on...You will still gain credit for posting at forums near the bottom, but you will not gain as much as you would otherwise.

All in all, this means that you will rank the highest when you have been recently active in the system. As you cease posting, your rating will slowly drop (even if you are not receiving any posts). The idea here is to maintain a steady stream of posts at top forums so that you maintain a top rating.

All major forum software remains supported, although some of the less popular software which was previously supported by PostFusion is no longer supported. We did this because we did not want to make the majority of our users wait while we support software if nobody currently uses it. If you use forum software which is no longer supported by PostFusion, just let us know here, and we will do our best to add support for it.

Please let us know what you think of the new ranking system. We want to know how well it works in production, as all we have done thus far is speculate. This new ranking system is one of many improvements we have made to the system with this release. The others are listed below. These are also included in an email which you will be receiving shortly.

No more ceiling or floor
Post AS MUCH as you want. Nothing is stopping you from climbing to the top, other than your fellow PostFusion users of course . Even when you do hit the #1 spot, you may now continue to post in order to increase the gap in betwen you and the people below you.

Improved efficiency
Not only is the script more secure, but it is also much more efficient on both your server and ours. The previous system would query your forum once for every subscribed member, but the new script queries your forum just once for ALL subscribed members. Whenever you download a PostFusion script, it can be used by you and only you. This means increased security and reliability for all users.

Spaces in subscribed usernames are now accepted
Before now, you could not subscribe to a forum if your subscribing username had a space in it. Now you can.

Enjoy!

So, how often will the system update our rating? It was 10 minutes before; will it remain the same, or will it take our activity and posts and evaluate them before it updates?

It will update every 10 minutes for the time being. I will monitor the system and adjust accordingly. If I can trim down the time I will. I would love to be able to trim it back to even faster updates, but we will see.

I don't really have an issue with it updating every 10 minutes, but decreasing the time would be nice. Great work guys.

Quick edit: shouldn't the PF statistics be reset to reflect the fresh start?

As the statistics are cumulative and not real-time they were kept. And thank you for the compliment. It was a ton of work to re-do this, but was a blast and I truly hope that this helps bring the enjoyment level back to PF.

Is there a way to suspend or pause your usage in this new system if you know you won't be able to post for a week (maybe when on vacation)? No sense in losing ground when you have no chance of posting elsewhere.

Thats a good idea the old PF they just said remove your forum and if you wanted it back just tell them then they would put it back up.

Sounds pretty cool. Good job Larry and Ryan!

I think that would open it up for abuse...It would also do funny things to other ratings when one is "removed" or "ignored"

Vacations are normal - it happens...Just like everything else, when you come back from vacation, you have some catching up to do.

I had a quick question and maybe you already explained it. If you have 4, or 5, or 6 different forums in the new system, do they rank individually now, or will the entire group still move up and down at the same time?
Thanks for the info.
