ATTN: PostFusion Users - Post Cap

As you might have noticed before, we tend to have a problem with high positive balances in PostFusion. This is due to users posting quite a bit without the rest of the users posting the same amount in return. This has a negative impact on the overall system, as it is that much harder for everybody else to get near the top of the list.

In order to help lessen the effects of this, we (Larry) have been working on implementing a post cap which would prevent ultra-high balances. The cap that we are working with is 250. This would mean that when a balance reaches 250, any posts made by that owner will not count towards his/her balance. The owner would be notified via PM every time this cap is reached. When the balance drops back down below 250, posts made by that owner will be counted once again, but all of those made while at 250 will still not count.

As far as how it would work when implemented with current balances...all of those balances which are currently at or above 250 will act as if they are at the cap until they drop below 250. No posts made by those owners will be counted until the subscribers pull them below 250.

We hope that by doing this, the system is better balanced and fair for all of those participating. Obviously, this is a substantial change to the current system, and we would like your feedback before bringing this live. As of now, we are planning to be ready to implement the cap after a week (next Monday), so if you have any questions or concerns, you need to speak up now. Keep in mind that Larry and I know how the system works better than anybody else, and it is much easier for us to see the bigger picture. We monitor how balances rise and fall from day to day and recognize a need for some sort of balance cap. This might not be a popular move for the high-balance users, but we feel that it would definitely be a great improvement for PostFusion as a whole.

Interesting.

Personally, I don't think that's fair, but hey, it's your call. Hopefully I'm wrong and this will be an improvement on the system.

I think it's a good idea. While I can see where you could think it's unfair, I think it will help keep the system more in balance. User's high balances is what got me in the hole in the first place

Not sure how I am going to like the cap, but hey I am the one with the highest balance.

My first question with it is if many people reach the cap then how is the ranking decided?

We haven't decided.

Right now, I believe it would be age spent in PF. The longer you've been using PF, the higher you would be listed...but if that's not enough, we'll see if we can come up with a good sorting method. I'm thinking that the best way would be to sort them based on time spent at the cap...in other words, those who have been at the cap for the longest amount of time are above those who just hit the cap. With the current system and tables, I'm not sure whether or not that is plausible, so we'll see what Larry has to say

lol, sure...why not. While we're at it, why don't we just assign a random # of points to everybody's posts...that would make things interesting

That would be like a lottery! You have to "give up" 10 PF points to enter the drawing, and one lucky loser winner, will get everyone's entry fee. lol.

(only kidding)

Currently that is not plausible, but I definitely see where the ranking post cap can and will be a concern. I can implement it so that it stores the date that cap is hit and work it so that it is a secondary sorting option.

Having read through this a couple of times and I just don't understand this at all.

You seem to be concentrating on limiting those users that are actually willing to particapate in PostFusion. Surely you should be trying to get the members to post in the forums at the top instead of penalizing those that have put time and effort into PostFusion.

Sorry for the negative feedback, but it just looks like a bad idea to me that may well backfire as users realise there is a limit and decide there is no point in participating.
