1 Week Later - PF Suggestions?

So, it has now been about one week since we implemented the new PostFusion ranking system. There were a few bugs in the beginning along with many confused and disoriented members. This was really a huge change for PostFusion, as it completely changed the PF horizon. We are still confident that this was definitely a change for the better, and we hope that things will only get better from here on out. There have been over 1,500 posts exchanged in less than 1 week. So we are now averaging over 200 posts per day, whereas before we were averaging just 25-50. Sure, a lot of this is due to the "excitement factor" associated with a new system, but remember:

1) We are still adjusting the formula so that it works better
2) We have done 0 advertising of the new system outside of PF

Now, that said, we want feedback from those of you who have used the new system. What do you like? What do you not like? We are going to create a FAQ that explains the rankings much better, and we will soon start advertising PF elsewhere. Before we do this, we want to know what you think we should do in order to make it more appealing to forum owners. What could we have done for you that would have made things more clearer or kept you from running away?

NOTE: We are looking for input on the current system. We are not asking for feature requests or another rewrite/revamp. This formula/activity-based ranking system is here to stay, and we want to know what we can do to make it look more appealing and also easier for new users to understand.

I almost think that forums climb and fall too easily. Maybe its better this way because people will post more but when I used it one day my forum and the forums I was posting at could climb and fall with only a few posts it seemed. But I guess these forums were the top 3 on the list.

But I'm really liking it overall, a much better system than it was previously.

I agree. I think they fall/rise WAY too easy. Make it harder.

And obviously, the more sites, the better.

The more sites, the more posting the harder it will be to make them go up and down.

I agree with the posts above about the rising and falling thing. After working really hard and making 400 posts since the new system started, I basically stopped posting for 4 hours while I was away from my computer (imagine that, lol) and fell from the top area of the list all the way to the second page. Seems like it is to easy to fall once you reach the top few sites.... just my opinion.

That had to have been a bug that has since been squashed. There is no way you would make 400 posts and then 4 hours later fall 25+ spots unless you did indeed receive 200+ posts in 4 hours. If there were hundreds of forums active in PF, that may be possible, but not with how many forums we have right now. Actually, before I get myself in trouble...this could possibly happen. If you make 400 posts at the bottom 10 forums and then receive 100 posts while you are at the #1 spot, you could potentially drop to below where you started.

Remember...we're getting upwards of 250 posts per day in PF. That's ~10 posts per hour. If you start at 0 and make 40 posts....6 hours later, 60 or so posts have been made. If 40 of those posts were made in your forum, then you're going to drop close to where you started, if not below where you started.

What I'm trying to say is, the same amount of activity that you were using with the old system is not going to keep you at the top with the new system. It's a combination of more PF activity and it being harder to maintain the #1 spot.

However, having said all of that, I do have an idea that might help prevent people from rising and falling as fast, and I will discuss it with Larry.

that's ok - I am not complaining, just participating in the thread. You asked to make suggestions so the main part of my post was agreeing with the others about dropping very fast.

Canadian is on a distinguished road
I think as more forums sign up, things will 'level out' a bit.

Yeah, at the moment I think it's way too easy to move dramatically up and down the list, maybe until there are more forums, only update the balances say every 7-8hours

ewww...I would hate that as a PF user. You'd have no idea where you stand.
